Bollywood Actresses Weigh in on Menstrual Leave Debate

Last year, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court demanding menstrual leave for women in schools and offices. Several Bollywood actresses have shared their opinions on this matter, with some supporting menstrual leave and others opposing it.

Alia Bhatt, for instance, has spoken out in favor of menstrual leave. She believes that women should be allowed to take a day off or work from home during their periods, rather than suffering in silence. Taapsee Pannu has also expressed her support for menstrual leave, saying that it's unfair to expect women to work as usual during their periods when they may be experiencing physical discomfort and pain.

On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut has opposed menstrual leave, saying that women are not weak and can handle their periods without needing special treatment. She believes that women are capable of working and managing their households even during their periods. Hina Khan, who is currently battling breast cancer, has also spoken out about the difficulties of working during her periods, saying that she wishes she had the option to take a break from shooting for the first two days of her period.

Sunny Leone has also opposed menstrual leave, saying that it would be unfair to give women five days off every month, which would add up to 60 days off per year. Smriti Kalra has also expressed her opposition to menstrual leave, saying that she doesn't face any difficulties working during her periods and that the concept of menstrual leave is "nonsense".

The debate around menstrual leave has sparked a wider conversation about women's health and well-being in the workplace. While some women may not experience severe symptoms during their periods, others may face significant discomfort and pain. The question remains whether menstrual leave is a necessary accommodation for women or an unnecessary privilege.

It's worth noting that menstrual leave is not a new concept, and some countries like Japan and South Korea have already implemented menstrual leave policies. In India, however, the idea of menstrual leave is still a topic of debate, with some arguing that it's a necessary step towards gender equality and others seeing it as an unnecessary indulgence.
