In a troubling development in Manipur, unidentified assailants launched a twin bomb attack on the office of the United Committee Manipur (UCM) in the Imphal West district on Thursday evening. The attack, which occurred around 8 p.m. in the Lamphelpat area, was accompanied by multiple gunshots.
According to initial reports, the perpetrators arrived in a four-wheeled vehicle and fled the scene shortly after the explosion. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident. Senior police officers who responded to the scene observed signs of bullet impacts on the office walls but noted that the blasts caused minimal damage.
Authorities have collected samples to identify the type of explosives used and are working to trace the attackers. The UCM, a group representing the Meitei community, has been actively opposing calls for the division of Manipur, a stance that has made it a target in the ongoing Meitei-Kuki conflict.
This attack marks the second time the UCM office has been targeted since the conflict began in May of the previous year. The office was previously set on fire in February by unknown individuals.
Police are continuing their investigation to ensure the safety of the community and prevent further incidents.
