BENGALURU: According to high-level sources, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is likely to meet with top central authorities on inter-state river connection projects announced during the budget presentation on Thursday.

Experts are concerned that the river-linking projects will benefit the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh rather than Karnataka.

CM Bommai has requested meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP Party President J.P. Nadda to discuss the project's concerns. The state's water specialists are concerned that the announcement of river connectivity will be damaging to the state's interests.

On Wednesday, the chief minister said that he will visit new Delhi. "Most likely on Thursday, I'll meet with MPs and top advocates who represent the state on matters of inter-state water disputes.

" Prof C. Narasimhappa, a water expert reportedly said that the river interlinking project will assist Karnataka in no way. The interconnection of rivers will benefit Tamil Nadu and, to a lesser extent, Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh has connected the Godavari and Krishna rivers. He said that linking projects would assist Tamil Nadu to the greatest extent possible.
