Sarajevo: According to authorities and the victim's family, a child was detained on Wednesday after allegedly shooting a teacher at an elementary school in the city of Lukavac in northeastern Bosnia.
The incident occurred a month after back-to-back shootings shook the neighbouring country of Serbia, including a spree at a Belgrade elementary school where a 13-year-old shot and killed 10 people, including nine of his classmates.
According to the interior ministry of Tuzla canton, "the child, who is not yet 14 years old, is under police supervision in the premises of the Lukavac Police Department, while firearms and other abandoned items are secured until the investigation begins."

The suspect was identified by authorities as a recent transfer from one school to another.
According to Ahmed Omerovic, the education minister for Tuzla, "The child was transferred to another school from the beginning of the second semester as a result of a disciplinary measure."

All schools in the Tuzla canton's jurisdiction had their last day of classes today, he continued.
According to local broadcaster N1, the injured victim is an English teacher and assistant principal at the school, according to the victim's father, Ismet Osmanovic.

The hospital in the neighbouring city of Tuzla reported that the shooting victim had suffered "gunshot wounds to the neck."
The University Clinic Centre of Tuzla issued a statement that read, "The patient was intubated and he is being operated on," according to regional media.
