DHARMASHALA: At the time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizing on improvement in health care facilities in the country his address at Varanasi, about 1225 kilometer from his parliamentary constituency, five people's battling to save their eyesight at Kangra in Himchal Pradesh.
Prime Minister is in Varanasi to lay foundation stone for Mahamana Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer centre and Centenary Super Specialty Hospital at Varanasi in order provides better health care facilities for the people in the area.
The matter came to light when the five patients, mostly older people and hailing from different parts of Kangra district, were admitted to Rotary Eye Hospital at Palampur after developing an infection and on verge of losing their eyesight. They all undergone cataract surgeries at Dr Rajendera Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) in Kangra of Himachal Pradesh on December 15.
The incident to highlight, the state of medical treatment in the country. Around an year back, similar kind of incident occurred at Madhya Pradesh's Barwani and Sheopur districts where 67 persons lost their eyesight in botched cataract surgeries conducted during the cataract check-up at Barwnai district hospital, while in Sheopur, 16 people had complained about complications after surgery.
After Barwarni and Sheopur eye surgery camp horrors which had rocked the state, now it is Chitrakoot, Satna district, where 35 people have been reported to have lost their eyesight after surgery in Sadguru Eye Hospital. Satna collector has ordered an inquiry. The patients were operated on December 30 last year.
