Brazil reports 60,899 new corona cases in 24 hours

Rio de Janeiro: Brazil has the world's second-highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, and is experiencing a second wave of outbreaks, with cases and deaths on the rise since December. Brazil reported 60,899 new corona cases, bringing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 8,256,536. The death toll reached 205,964 on Wednesday after 1,274 more people died of the novel coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours.

Recently, Brazil set a new record with 87,843 daily cases and saw 1,524 deaths in a day, the second-highest number since the onset of the pandemic. A total of 7,316,944 people are considered to have recovered from the disease.

Talking about global corona cases, covid-19 cases rise unabated across the globe, with nearly 93 million infected by the deadly contagion. While 66,276,239 have recovered, 1,968,544 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 23,614,679, followed by India, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom. However, in terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the charts, followed by France, UK, Brazil and Belgium.
