Brazil has signed a vaccine agreement with India-based indigenous vaccine maker Bharat Biotech. The Brazilian health department said that it has tied up with India's pharmaceutical company 'Bharat Biotech' to purchase 20 million doses of Coronavirus vaccine 'Covaxin'.

However, the use of 'Covaxin' has not yet been approved by local regulators. This agreement has been done by Brazil on the day when the death toll due to infection in Brazil has reached two and a half million. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's administration said that the first batch of 8 million doses of the 'Covaxin' would arrive in March.

It is also being said that the second batch of 8 million doses may come in April and another 4 million doses may come in May. Due to lack of Brazil vaccines, only 4% of its 21 crore population has been able to get vaccinated. The agreement has not been confirmed by either of the country's pharmaceutical companies 'Precisa Medicamentos' and 'Bharat Biotech'.
