NEW DELHI: Mild tremors were felt in Delhi-National Capital Region on Wednesday, February 22 afternoon as an earthquake of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Nepal.

The earthquake struck 69 kilometer from Jumla in Nepal. According to the National Center of Seismology, the depth of the quake was 10 km and occurred at around 1.30 pm.

Sadly, Nepal has been seeing frequent earthquakes for the past few months. Earlier on January 24, a 5.8 magnitude intensity earthquake struck Nepal.

In November last year, the country witnessed a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, killing at least six people in a house collapse incident in the Doti district on Wednesday. The tremors were felt in parts of the Delhi-NCR region as well.

Things to do, dont before, during and after an earthquake: Prepare for a probable earthquake by creating a family plan that includes how to contact each other and where to meet.

Locate the safest places in your hosue/workplace/school to take shelter in an earthquake, and identify evacuation routes.

Talk to your children about what to do if there is an earthquake, and especially, what to do if they are alone when one occurs.

Make sure you have sufficient emergency supplies, including clean water, non-perishable foods, prescription drugs, first aid kit, batteries, radio, and food for pets. Keep important documents such as passports or identity documents with you.

Keep emergency telephone numbers close at hand (civil defense, ambulance, hospitals, fire department, police, etc.).
If there is a pregnant woman in the family, prepare a pregnancy kit with medical documents, medicines, and other things that might be necessary if she is hospitalized for delivery or any complication.

Prepare an emergency backpack/kit in case you have to evacuate the area.
