NEW DELHI: Union Cabinet has reshuffled with Arjun Ram Meghwal appointed as new law minister of India. Meghwal will also get existing portfolios of Rijiju apart from the Law and Justice Ministry as a part of this rejig.

On July 8, 2021, Kiren  Rijiju assumed the position of Minister of Law and Justice. From May 2019 to July 2021, he was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences' portfolio will now be managed by Kiren Rijiju.

The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been pleased to direct the following reallocation of portfolios among Ministers in the Union Council of Ministers : -Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State, should be given the independent responsibility as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his current portfolios, in place of Shri Kiren Rijiju, who should be given the portfolio of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Who is Arjun Ram Meghwal?: Arjun Ram Meghwal is an Indian politician who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was born on December 20, 1954, in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. Meghwal has had an active political career and has served in various governmental roles.

Meghwal began his political journey by joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization, during his college years. He later joined the BJP and became actively involved in party activities. In 1999, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the 13th Lok Sabha from the Bikaner constituency in Rajasthan. Since then, he has been re-elected multiple times and currently represents the same constituency.

Throughout his political career, Meghwal has held several significant positions. He has served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources in the Indian government. He has also held the position of Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs. Meghwal has actively participated in parliamentary debates and has been involved in various legislative processes.

Arjun Ram Meghwal has been known for his advocacy of social causes and his active involvement in community development initiatives. He has been particularly focused on issues related to education, rural development, and women empowerment. Meghwal has been recognized for his efforts in promoting digital literacy and financial inclusion through various government schemes.
