A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Poicha in Gujarat's Narmada district as seven members of a family, including children, are feared drowned in the Narmada River. The devastating event occurred yesterday when they were reportedly swept away by the strong currents of the river.

Local divers from the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) and the Vadodara fire team have commenced a rigorous search operation to locate the missing individuals. Despite their efforts, no signs of the victims have been found thus far.

According to reports, the victims were part of a group visiting Poicha from Surat, situated on the border of Vadodara and Narmada districts. The tragedy struck on Tuesday morning, prompting swift action from authorities.

Responding to the urgent situation, a unit of the 6BN NDRF from Jarod in Vadodara district promptly arrived at Poicha to aid in the search operation.

Poicha, known for its scenic beauty, particularly during summer, attracts visitors for picnics and swimming in the Narmada River. Recent measures by the Narmada district administration have prohibited local boat operators from ferrying passengers without proper licensing.

Despite regulations, boatmen continue to operate on the Vadodara district side of the river, raising concerns about safety protocols.

Authorities are yet to provide further details as investigations into the incident continue. The community awaits updates on the tragic event, hoping for some positive news amidst the sorrow.
