Let us know that on the premises of the Vishnu Temple at Yonge Street and Garden Avenue, about 5 meters high statue of the Father of the Nation Gandhi was installed, which has been broken by some miscreants. Not only this, anti-social elements also wrote objectionable words like 'Khalistan' and 'Rapist' on this statue. York Regional Police spokeswoman Amy Boudreau confirmed the incident, saying the objectionable words were used to malign the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
According to the media report, Boundreau has said, "Those who hate other people on the basis of race, caste, country, language, religion, age, gender, etc., are biased, insulted, they will be prosecuted within the legal limits. We believe that the community-wide impact of hate crimes is quite far-reaching. So we strictly investigate hate crimes or all such incidents.''
On the other hand, the head of the temple, Dr Budhendra Dubey, has expressed his disappointment over the demolition. He said the idol in the temple Shanti Park has been attached for more than 30 years, but such an act has never happened. He said he has lived so peacefully here in Richmond Hill for so many years, but nothing of the sort has ever happened. He further said "If we live the way Gandhi taught us to live, we will not hurt any individual or any community.''
At the same time, Indian authorities reacted to the matter, calling it a tragic act to terrorise the Indian community living in Canada. Expressing grief over the incident, he said that the heinous incident has hurt the sentiments of the Indian community living in Canada.
