New Delhi: Britain's Cairn Energy has obtained an order from a French court to seize 20 Indian government properties to recover USD 1.7 billion in impairments. But in this context, the Finance Ministry says that the Government of India has not received any such notice or order from any French court in this regard. The government is trying to find out the facts. The ministry also said that appropriate legal measures will be taken whenever such notice or order is received.

According to reports, the French court on June 11 ordered the acquisition of Indian government properties, mostly flats, on Cairn energy. The legal process in this regard was completed on Wednesday evening. Three people directly related to the case said that most of these properties are flats worth more than 20 million euros, and are used by the Government of India in France.

French Court Tribunal Judiciary de Paris on June 11 ordered the confiscation of government-owned residential real estate based in central Paris (through a judicial mortgage) on Cairn's application. Although Cairn is unlikely to evict Indian officials living in these properties, the government cannot sell them after a court order.
