Jammu: The Zojila pass is at an altitude of 11,650 feet, connecting the route from Jammu Kashmir to Ladakh. This pass is normally closed from the middle of November each year. After the onset of winter, when the temperature falls below zero degrees and snow starts to freeze, then this pass is blocked for traffic. After closing, this pass is opened till the second week of March, although this time this pass is going to open today after 59 days.

After the conflict with China, the deployment of the unit of the Indian Army on the LAC was extended. To maintain logistic support for the soldiers, the Zojila pass is being opened before the appointed time. Zojila Pass was kept open till 31 December last year. Connectivity in Zojila was established on 15 February 2021 and the carriageway was subsequently improved. This pass was officially opened on 28th February today from Srinagar to Leh with a trial convoy of army trains and movement of civil vehicles.

Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhary, VSM, DGBR, and other senior military officers as well as officers of the civil administration of Kashmir and Ladakh were also present on this historic occasion. Earlier the Zojila pass was closed for an average of 150 days, but due to the efforts of BRO, it opened only after 59 days. The route to Zojila Pass was closed by 20-30 feet thick snow in the cold. But this time, Indian soldiers showed up to keep the important road on Zojila pass open even in the cold.
