Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha called on the Telangana government to retract its decision regarding the elimination of roster points in job allocations. As the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Kavitha also reached out to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and current party chief Mallikarjun Kharge to address this issue.

The Telangana government's recent move to introduce 33.33% horizontal reservations for women without implementing roster points in recruitment categories has sparked controversy. Kavitha referenced a 1996 milestone where women secured 33.3% horizontal reservations in job opportunities and highlighted a 2022 Supreme Court ruling regarding horizontal reservations without roster points, citing a recent judgment from the Rajasthan Public Service Commission.

Expressing her discontent, Kavitha stated, "Unfortunately, the Telangana government has chosen to implement a special Government Order (GO) in line with the Supreme Court's ruling. However, we oppose this decision and urge the government to pursue legal action."

Highlighting past efforts, Kavitha mentioned that the former BRS government had filed a writ petition against the Supreme Court's ruling. However, she criticized the current Revanth Reddy-led government in Telangana for withdrawing the case, claiming it would benefit women. She asserted that this move could adversely impact job opportunities for women in the state.

Calling for consistency, Kavitha urged Congress leadership to adopt a uniform policy nationwide on this issue. She pointed out discrepancies between Congress-led states, noting that while the Karnataka government has decided to challenge the Supreme Court's order, Telangana has chosen to comply with it.

"We oppose this inconsistency, which threatens the interests of women candidates and their job prospects. We demand that the Telangana Congress government revoke the government order," Kavitha emphasized.
