BS Yeddyurappa takes oath as 23rd Karnataka Chief Minister

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 17 (NT): Today BS Yeddyurappa took oath as the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka after the Supreme Court in the early hours of today morning decided not to put a stay on the swearing-in during conducting a post-midnight hearing.  He arrived at Raj Bhavan for swearing-in ceremony  at 9 AM .

Follwing a high voltagge dramma, Rahul gandhi tweeted 

"The BJP’s irrational insistence that it will form a Govt. in Karnataka, even though it clearly doesn’t have the numbers, is to make a mockery of our Constitution.

This morning, while the BJP celebrates its hollow victory, India will mourn the defeat of democracy".

Yeddyurappa who was Born on February 27, 1943 will succeed Siddaramaiah to take the oath as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka . He took oath as the name of "KIsan and Bhagwan"

Late Last night The three-judge bench of Justice A.K. Sikri, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice SA Bobde refused the petition filed by the two parties to put saty on Yeddyurappa swearg-in ceremoney  today morning  and decided not to put a stay on the swearing-in while conducting a post-midnight hearing. In Plea lodged by Congress and JD(S) for the same cited BJP's inadequate strength in the assembly to stake claim at forming the state government.



The next hearing will take place on Friday at 10:30 am.

Late last night, Congress and JD(S) challenged Karnataka Governor Vajubhai R. Vala's decision in the top court to invite BJP to form the government even when the saffron party, with 105 MLAs, including one Independent MLA, is seven short of the halfway mark of 112.
