Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, the arrest of al-Qaeda militants has sparked a heated exchange of fire. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former CM Mayawati has questioned the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) action over the arrest of terrorists. He said such action raises doubts in the minds of the people as the assembly elections approach. However, he has said that if the police claim to be a terrorist is correct, appropriate action should be taken.

Mayawati tweeted that "If the UP police's claim of sabotage of a terror plot in Lucknow and the two arrested persons in the case being linked to Al-Qaeda is true, it is a serious matter and appropriate action should be taken but there should be no politics under the guise of which is feared."

In another tweet, the BSP supremo said, "Such action raises doubts in the minds of the people only as the UP Assembly comes close to the general elections. If there is truth behind this action, why was the police unaware for so long? This is the question that people are asking. Therefore, the Government should not take any action which will further increase the unrest among the people.''
