RAIPUR: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has unveiled a selection of nine contenders for the imminent Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, as reported by a leading party official on the 9th of August.

Chhattisgarh, currently under Congress rule, is slated to hold its Assembly elections later this year, though the precise timeline has yet to be disclosed.

Under the directive of BSP's national president and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, the compilation of nine potential candidates for the Chhattisgarh elections was made public late on Tuesday night, as relayed by the party's State President, Hemant Poyam, to PTI.

Poyam stated, "Current lawmakers Keshav Prasad Chandra and Indu Banjare, who presently represent the Jaijaipur constituency (Sakti district) and the Scheduled Caste-reserved Pamgarh constituency (Janjgir-Champa district) respectively, have been nominated to contest from their respective segments."

The roster also includes Dauram Ratnakar (designated for the Masturi seat, reserved for SC candidates), Omprakash Bachpayee (designated for Nawagarh-SC reserved), Radheshyam Suryavanshi (Janjgir-Champa), Vinod Sharma (Akaltara), Shayam Tandan (Bilaigarh - SC reserved), Ramkumar Suryavanshi (Beltara), and Anand Tigga (Samri - reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates).

In the 2018 State Assembly elections, BSP formed an alliance with Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) and the Communist Party of India (CPI). In that election, the Mayawati-led party secured victories in two constituencies - Jaijaipur and Pamgarh - and garnered 4.27% of the total votes, while their coalition partner JCC (J) secured five seats and achieved 7.6% of the votes. Notably, no such alliance has been declared between these parties for the upcoming elections.
