Guwahati: Assam's Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election results have been declared with Hagrama Mohilary led Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF) winning 17 seats. As no party could cross halfway mark, BTC will witness a coalition rule for the first time.  On this situation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has won nine seats in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, is likely to join hands with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) to form the council.

According to the source, BJP is unlikely to back its ally Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF, which has emerged as the single largest party, to form the council. Pramod Boro-led UPPL has bagged 12 seats while ruling Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) managed to capture 17 seats. UPPL chief Pramod Boro met Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at his Dispur residence late at night on Saturday. Assam BJP president Ranjeet Das and Lok Sabha MP and party national general secretary Dilip also attended the meeting.

The BTC polls were held for 40 constituencies across the four districts of Kokrajhar, Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang under Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
