LOS ANGELES: Jungkook of BTS performed his much anticipated World Cup song, “Dreamers,” this weekend during the opening ceremony in Qatar.

Fahad Al Kubaisi, a musician from Qatar, joined the South Korean singer on stage on Sunday for an enormous performance that featured a stunning light show and dozens of support dancers wearing glossy, futuristic costumes.

In a video from the occasion, Jungkook sings, "Look who we are / We are the dreamers / We make it happen 'cause we believe it." Observe who we are. The dreamers are us. Because we can see it, we make it happen.

The World Cup hymn will be performed by Jungkook at the opening ceremony at Qatar's Al Bayt Stadium, according to a Friday announcement by BTS record label Bighit Music. The host nation and Ecuador played in the opening match of the international soccer event on Sunday.

The song "Dreamers" by Jungkook is included in the soundtrack for the 2022 World Cup along with "Tukoh Taka" by Nicki Minaj, Maluma, and Myriam Fares and "Hayya Hayya (Better Together)," which features Davido, Trinidad Cardona, and Aisha.

Months after the members of BTS disclosed plans to "spend some time apart" and focus on solo projects to introduce themselves to fans, the 25-year-old vocalist made his World Cup debut. BTS, however, has now made it clear that it is "not on sabbatical" and would "remain active in multiple formats."

The septet is "going forward with plans to fulfil their [mandatory] military service," according to a statement made by Bighit in October. According to the label, Jungkook, Jin, V, Suga, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope will stagger their military responsibilities while pursuing individual undertakings, and they "are looking forward to reconvening as a group again around 2025."
