This year, the festival of Buddha Purnima is held on 26th May, 2021. In that case, let us tell all of you that Buddha Purnima is important not only for Buddhism but also for Hindus. In fact, it is said that Buddha is the ninth incarnation of Vishnu. Buddha Purnima is also considered sacred for Hindus. Now today we are going to tell you why Buddha Purnima is celebrated.

Why buddha purnima is celebrated - it is said that it was only when Buddha Bhagwan learnt about violence, sin and death in his life that he gave up attachment and he left his family and was free from all responsibilities. After that he went out in search of the truth. In the end, he came to know the truth and the date of Vaisakh Purnima has a special connection with the major events of Lord Buddha's life. Because of this, every Vaisakh Purnima is celebrated as Buddha Purnima in Buddhism.

It is said that Lord Buddha retired at the age of 29. In fact, he had performed hard penance under the peepal tree in Bodh Gaya for six years and that Bodhi tree is still located in Gaya district of Bihar. It is said that Buddha Bhagwan gave his first sermon in Sarnath. It was on the day of Vaisakh Purnima that Lord Buddha merged with panchattva in 483 BC. In such a situation, this day is also known as Parinirvana Diwas.
