Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is gearing up to match former Prime Minister Morarji Desai's record by delivering her sixth consecutive budget speech on February 1.

Key Records:

Morarji Desai, serving as finance minister, presented five annual budgets and one interim budget from 1959 to 1964, totaling 10 budgets, the highest by any finance minister.
Following the Modi government's ascent in 2014, Arun Jaitley presented five consecutive budgets from 2014-15 to 2018-19.

Piyush Goyal presented the interim budget for fiscal year 2019-20 on February 1, 2019.

After the 2019 general elections, Nirmala Sitharaman became the second woman after Indira Gandhi to present the budget for the financial year 1970-71.

Interim Budget:

Interim budgets are typically presented when general elections are near. The new government, expected to form around June, will introduce the final budget for fiscal year 2024-2025 in July, regardless of whether it's a new or re-elected government.

This budget marks the conclusion of the second term of the Modi government.

Officials involved in budget formulation are currently under strict confidentiality measures until its official presentation on February 1. Their 'lock-in' period began with the traditional 'halwa' ceremony on January 24.

Budget Presentation Details: The interim budget for 2024-2025 will be tabled by FM Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 at 11 am.
You can watch the live budget speech on Doordarshan and their respective YouTube channels.

Budget 2024 documents will be available in a "paperless form" on the Union Budget Mobile App, including essential documents like the Annual Financial Statement, Demand for Grants, and the Finance Bill mandated by the Constitution.
