Budget Session: Finance Minister to table Economic Survey 2020-21 in Parliament today

The Budget Session of the Parliament will start today, 29 January. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey 2021 in the Parliament after the President's address.

The Economic Survey is a detailed report of the condition of the economy and is prepared by the Economics Division of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the guidance of the Chief Economic Adviser. It mentions key challenges before the economy and the way out to tackle it.

The annual survey analyses the trends in infrastructure, agricultural and industrial production, jobs, prices,  imports, exports, supply of money, foreign exchange reserves and other factors having an impact on the Indian economy and the budget.

Economic Survey 2021 be prepared by Chief Economic Adviser K V Subramanian. This year's economic survey will be significant considering the after-effects of a hectic year brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The crucial Budget session of Parliament will be held as per the coronavirus-induced physical distancing norms. The Union Budget 2021 will be presented in parliament on 1 February.

The session will begin with President Ram Nath Kovind's address at 11.00 am to members of both the Houses seated in three different locations for the first time in view of the pandemic. Members of Parliament have been asked to undergo an RT-PCR test against the Covid-19 before the start of the Budget session.
