New Delhi, September 18 – A two-storey building collapsed in the Karol Bagh area of Delhi early Wednesday morning, resulting in the rescue of eight individuals who were subsequently admitted to the hospital, according to a senior Delhi Police official.

The official reported that there are concerns that additional people may be trapped beneath the debris, prompting an ongoing search and rescue operation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central, M Harsh Vardhan, provided details: "At approximately 9 am, the Prasad Nagar Police Station received information about the collapse from Bapa Nagar. The building, which was about 25 square yards in size, has collapsed. So far, eight people have been rescued and taken to the hospital. We fear that others might be trapped. Local police, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, and other agencies, are working on the rescue efforts. No fatalities have been confirmed yet. Legal action will be considered after the rescue operation concludes."

In response to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister-designate Atishi has instructed the District Magistrate to extend all possible assistance to the affected individuals. Atishi has also urged the public to report any potential hazards related to construction to prevent future incidents.

Taking to X, Atishi expressed her concerns: "The collapse in Karol Bagh is deeply troubling. I have directed the District Magistrate to offer all possible support to the victims and ensure that any injured persons receive medical treatment. We are also investigating the cause of the accident. I have communicated with the Municipal Corporation Mayor about the situation. Given the heavy rainfall this year, I urge Delhi residents to report any construction-related safety concerns to the administration and the corporation so that the government can provide prompt assistance."
