NEW DELHI: At the Brabourne Stadium during the Women's Premier League (WPL) final, Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah made his return to action after having back surgery in New Zealand earlier this month.
Since pulling out of the home T20Is against South Africa in late September of last year and skipping the Men's T20 World Cup in Australia, Bumrah hasn't played in any competitive matches of cricket. He had also missed the Asia Cup that was hosted in the UAE the previous year.
For the ODI series against Sri Lanka in January of this year, he made a return attempt. Nonetheless, Bumrah was dropped on the morning of the ODI series' opening match in Guwahati. Moreover, he has been disqualified from both the June World Test Championship final and the forthcoming IPL season.
Bumrah and England fast bowler Jofra Archer can be seen talking in the Brabourne Stadium in a video that the Mumbai Indians on Sunday shared on their Instagram account.
The Mumbai Indians' assault will be led by Archer, who missed the previous season due to injury, since the 29-year-old Indian is not participating in the IPL 2023.
In the IPL mega auction last year, the Mumbai-based club paid Rs 8 crore to get Archer, who was also sidelined for more than a year following his elbow surgery.
Mumbai Indians will open their Indian Premier Leagge 2023 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
