New Delhi: The Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet has sanctioned the appointment of BVR Subrahmanyam, IAS (Retired) as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), an official notification said.

With this appointment, Subrahmanyam will replace Parameswaran Iyer who is appointed as Executive Director, World Bank Headquarters, Washington DC, USA.

Subrahmanyam is an Andhra Pradesh-born IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, class of 1987. During 2004 through 2008, the officer served as the then-prime minister Manmohan Singh's private secretary.

In 2018, he also held the position of Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. Thereafter, he was appointed the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Commerce Secretary.

Parameswaran Iyer is an Indian Administrative Service, Uttar Pradesh Cadre, 1981 batch. Between 2016-20, he served as the Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in New Delhi.

The move comes as India looks to scale up its growth in the post-pandemic era, with a focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and innovation. The government has identified several key areas for reform and investment, and the appointment of Subrahmanyam is seen as a step toward achieving these goals.
