NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban so that the houses approved under the programme could be finished.

By August 15, 2022, the program's goal is to have built over 112 crore homes in metropolitan areas. It was introduced in 2015. According to a government statement, the Cabinet agreed an extension until December 31, 2024 to ensure that the residences currently sanctioned are finished. The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has approved 122.69 crore homes so far, of which 102.59 crore have been grounded and 61.77 crore have been delivered as of August 1. This compares to the initial demand for homes, which was 112 crore.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister of State Kaushal Kishore responded to a question in the Lok Sabha on July 21 by stating: "A proposal seeking extension of the mission up to March 2024, to complete all houses sanctioned under the scheme up until 31 March 2022 without changing the funding pattern and implementation methodology, is under consideration. For all verticals with the exception of the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme, a temporary extension of six months has been granted.

Beneficiary Led Construction/Enhancement (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR), and Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme are the four verticals that make up the implementation of the programme (CLSS).
