Pathankot: A man in Punjab's Pathankot called up his grandfather, threatened him, and demanded Rs 1 crore, police said on Sunday. The victim complained about the matter to the police. Police have launched an investigation into the matter. Subsequently, the culprit has been arrested. Police say that the criminal had bought a new SIM to call. He is now being interrogated.

According to the police, the arrested person had carried out this incident by buying a new SIM. Police say the man had called his grandfather from a new number. He threatened and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore. The criminal also threatened him with consequences if he did not pay Rs 1 crore.

The victim complained about the matter to the police. The police traced the criminal's number, after which, based on his location, he was arrested. Police said the accused was the victim's grandson. He had bought a new SIM to threaten his grandfather. DSP Rajinder Manhas said that on Friday, the victim returned home from his shop and received a call around 8.50 pm. The caller had threatened and demanded a ransom. Subsequently, the victim lodged a complaint at the Shahpur Kandi police station. The culprit has been arrested by the police. Action is being taken against him. The entire matter is being investigated by the police.
