Camlin Founder Subhash Dandekar Passes Away at 86

MUMBAI: Subhash Dandekar, the visionary behind the iconic stationery brand Camlin, passed away on Monday at the age of 86. He was cremated in central Mumbai, and a condolence meeting is planned for Thursday. Dandekar had been unwell for a few days and breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighting the significant loss to the Marathi business community with Dandekar's passing. Fadnavis described him as a grandfather figure who not only established the Camlin industry but also enriched the lives of many by creating employment opportunities.

"Subhash Dandekar prioritized values, ensuring the growth of both industry and people. He always emphasized the importance of dignified labor, setting an exemplary standard for others. His death marks the loss of a mentor for the new generation. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. Om Shanti," Fadnavis said.

Dandekar also held the position of President of the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industries from 1990 to 1992, contributing significantly to the state's industrial sector.

He is survived by his son Ashish and daughter Anagha. Beyond establishing Camlin, Dandekar was known for his contributions to social awareness, art, and entrepreneurship. He was honored with the Game Changer of Maharashtra and Lifetime Achievement Awards, among other accolades. After selling Camlin to the Japanese brand Kokuyo, he served as the chairman emeritus of Kokuyo Camlin.
