PM Modi Cites RBI Report: 8 Crore Jobs Added in 3-4 Years, Rebuts Opposition Claims

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several projects worth over ₹29,400 crore in Mumbai, emphasizing Maharashtra's potential to become a global economic powerhouse and Mumbai's goal to be the fintech capital of the world.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted Maharashtra's rich history and its current strengths in agriculture, industry, and finance. He underscored the state's role in India’s development and laid out his vision for leveraging Maharashtra's economic power to transform it into a global economic leader. In a veiled critique of opposition parties criticizing the government over unemployment, PM Modi cited a recent RBI report revealing that approximately 8 crore new jobs have been created in the past three to four years. He asserted that these achievements have countered false narratives regarding job creation and investment in infrastructure.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of skill development and employment generation. He praised the government’s efforts in creating record numbers of jobs despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. He also noted that the NDA government is dedicated to advancing infrastructure and investment opportunities, stating, “These figures have silenced those who spread false narratives regarding employment.” During his speech, PM Modi unveiled numerous projects in the road, railways, and ports sectors, including the significant Vadhavan port project, which is expected to generate over 10 lakh jobs with an investment of ₹76,000 crore.

The Prime Minister remarked on the positive investor sentiment in Mumbai following the NDA government's third term, promising accelerated progress. He reiterated the goal of achieving a developed India by 2047, with Mumbai and Maharashtra playing a crucial role. Highlighting recent infrastructure developments, PM Modi spoke about the improvements in Mumbai’s connectivity, including the completion of the coastal road and Atal Setu, which serves around 20,000 vehicles daily, saving an estimated ₹20-25 lakh in fuel. He also mentioned the expansion of Mumbai's metro system from 8 km a decade ago to 80 km, with plans for a 200 km network, and the transformation of Indian Railways benefiting Mumbai and Maharashtra.

The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing the importance of improving the quality of life in Mumbai and Maharashtra, reinforcing the government's commitment to infrastructure and economic growth.
