RAJKOT: The canopy outside the terminal of Rajkot airport in Gujarat collapsed on Saturday late evening following heavy rainfall. This incident occurred shortly after a fatal roof collapse at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport's terminal-1, which resulted in one casualty.

According to sources from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the canopy collapsed during maintenance work aimed at clearing accumulated water. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and authorities have requested a detailed investigation report.

In related weather news, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow alert' for South Gujarat, anticipating heavy showers on Saturday. The IMD noted a cyclonic circulation over central Gujarat, extending over South Gujarat up to 4.5 km above sea level and moving southwards. This weather pattern is expected to bring active rainfall across Gujarat over the next five days.

In addition, heavy showers are forecasted in isolated locations including Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli on Sunday, with the wet weather likely persisting until July 3.
