J&K: Car fell into Chenab river, one killed, 6 missing

Jammu: A cab carrying nine passengers from Uttar Pradesh slipped off jammu-srinagar national highway and fell into the Chanab river, killing one person while injuring two others. The police have informed about it. A police official said that rescue operations are being carried out by police, military and civil rapid response teams while a team of Army divers has also been called in to trace the six missing passengers.

He said the Jammu bound vehicle fell into the fast flowing Chenab river near Dagipalli-Karol in Chanderkot area of Ramban district around 5.30 am when its driver Mohammad Asif (28) lost control of the vehicle. Officials said the rescue team immediately swung into action and rescued the driver along with two passengers Bilal Ahmed (25) and Rashid (21) from Kotwali in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.

He said Rashid died while being taken to the hospital. The specially trained army divers have joined the rescue operation and efforts are on to trace six missing passengers, the official said.
