Car hits two morning walkers in West Delhi’s Janakpuri

Monday, In a tragic incident, a speeding Honda City car driven by an inebriated BBA student hit two mormning walkers in west Delhi’s Janakpuri. An elderly man, were killed and another critically injured in an incident, and the accident took place around 6.30 am on a road behind Tihar Jail.

The victims have been identified as Ashwani Anand, 67, resident of Janakpuri, and Kameshwar Prasad, 40, resident of Sagarpur in West Delhi.

The injured person, Santosh, 40, is also a Janakpuri resident.

“The car was intercepted after a chase of around 400 meters. The errant driver tried to step out of the vehicle and flee. However, the policemen overpowered him. He was found driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Kumar.

The driver, identified as Rishabh, was returning home after attending a late night party at his friend’s home in Hari Nagar. Eyewitnesses told the senior police officer that he was heavily drunk and unable to stand on his own when the policemen took him out of the vehicle.

“Rishabh is pursuing his BBA course from Indraprastha University. The car is registered in the name of his father, who runs a hardware shop in Janakpuri. We have seized the vehicle,” said the DCP.

 A cash of rash and negligent driving causing deaths and injuries was registered and the driver was arrested.
