Delhi Police arrests 6 including Ashwini Upadhyay in anti-Muslim sloganeering case

New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested six persons including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Supreme Court lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay following a protest at Jantar Mantar. Based on a viral video of that event, it was alleged that anti-Muslim slogans were raised during the protest. AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan had also lodged a police complaint in the matter. He had objected to why FIR has been registered against unidentified persons.

Delhi Police took strict action and arrested Ashwini Upadhyay on Tuesday (August 10, 2021). His other associates Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Deepak, Vineet Kranti, and Preet Singh have also been taken into custody by the police. Preet Singh is the Director of Save India Foundation under whose banner the protest was organized at Jantar Mantar on August 8. The crime branch of Delhi Police is looking into the matter.

All of them were questioned for six hours after which they were arrested. Ashwini Upadhyay had reached the police station at 3 am. Ashwini Upadhyay had clarified that he had joined the movement like many others and hence had nothing to do with the objectionable sloganeers. He had assured full cooperation in the investigation and said that his health was not good.
