Catalonia to hold early parliamentary election amid corona pandemic

Despite the tense corona situation in the region, snap parliamentary election to be held by Spain's autonomous community of Catalonia on Sunday.

Additional health and safety measures at polling stations have been take to diminish the risk of the spread of the coronavirus and avoid postponing the vote to May 30. The current Catalan government operates since the end of September 2020, when the Spanish confirmed regional leader Quim Torra ineligible to hold any elected office for one and a half years, prompting requirement of the schedule of an early election.

Corona is wreaking havoc in all over the world. Many countries have started vaccination drive against coronna.  India has started its vaccination drive against coronavirus. With 296,211 more vaccinations across India on Saturday, the total count of those inoculated reached 8,263,858. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 10,611,731 – or 97.31 per cent of total caseload – with 11,106 new cured cases being reported on Sunday.
