Cattle smugglers and police clash in Cooch Behar's Mekliganj, injuring 12 Police officers

A clash between police and livestock smugglers occurred Friday night in Ushalpukuri Gram Panchayat under Mekliganj police station in Cooch Behar, injuring at least 12 officers. When these officers attempted to rescue animals transported to the border region for smuggling, they were attacked by a bunch of livestock smugglers.

The injured police officers were reportedly brought to Mekliganj Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, police have apprehended six people in connection with the incident, four of them are women. Smugglers brought 34 cows to the border area for smuggling into Bangladesh, according to police.

However, Cooch Behar Superintendent of Police (SP) Sumit Kumar has stated that additional raids would be conducted in this connection, according to sources.
