New Delhi: A person posing as the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been arrested for allegedly duping Rs 80 lakhs. Officials said on Friday that Manoj Kumar Jha, an accused in Madhubani, Bihar, has been caught by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Gurgaon.

After the arrest, the CBI searched eight locations in Delhi, Kolkata, Madhubani, and Bokaro Steel City, officials said. In which many objectionable documents and about 200 SIM cards were recovered. CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said that 'It was alleged that the accused had called himself a senior officer of NHAI.' Joshi said that 'It was also alleged that the complainant was asked to talk to the said chairman because he had informed about referring two-three big-name contractors for some essential work.' When the complainant approached the accused Manoj Kumar Jha, he allegedly told the complainant that his daughter needed Rs 80 lakh in Kolkata immediately.

The accused Jha said that his son-in-law would collect the money from there. CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said that 'The money was allegedly transferred to Kolkata through hawala network, which was collected by the accused himself. During the investigation, the accused was identified as a resident of Madhubani (Bihar) and later arrested by Gurgaon (Haryana).' He said that the accused is currently in CBI custody till August 9.
