MUMBAI: Nearly a decade of time after actress-model Jiah Khan was found hanging in a Mumbai flat, a Special CBI Court will deliver its verdict in the much-waited-sensational case, in which Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi is an accused, in Mumbai later on Friday.

Jiah, a 25-year-old American, was found hanged at her unit in the exclusive Juhu area Sagar Sangeet Building after midnight on June 3, 2013. According to reports, Jiah is dating Sooraj, the son of renowned actor-couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab.

She allegedly left a note that raised suspicions about Sooraj, who was at the time seeking to get into the Bollywood industry.

A week after Jiah committed suicide, in a major bombshell for Bollywood, Sooraj was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting suicide under IPC Section 306.

On July 3, 2014, the Bombay High Court's orders and Rabia Khan, Jiah's mother, repeatedly pleaded for the matter to be turned over to the CBI.

Jiah described her ordeal, close friendship, physical abuse, and alleged mental and physical torment she endured at the hands of Sooraj in her note.

22 witnesses, including Jiah's mother Rabia, were questioned by the prosecution during the case, while Sooraj was represented by attorney Prashant Patil.

The case was re-assigned to a special CBI court in 2021 after the sessions court stated it did not have jurisdiction over the case as the CBI had probed it.
