New Delhi: CBI officer Satish Dagar has sought VRS from the government. Dagar is the same officer who investigated the corruption case against former CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana. A spokesman for the investigating agency said that SP Satish Dagar at the agency has applied for voluntary retirement on a private basis. Sources said that Dagar filed this application last month. Senior officials also tried to convince Dagar to reconsider his decision, but he refused to reconsider. CBI had filed an FIR against Asthana on October 15 last year.
He was accused of taking bribes in the name of relieving an accused. The two were forcibly discharged by the central government at midnight on October 23 last year after the then CBI directors Alok Verma and Asthana accused each other of corruption. On the same night, M. Nageswara Rao, a 1986 batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre, was appointed as the interim director of the agency by the Center. It was he who involved Dagar in the investigation against Asthana. Earlier, Dagar had also investigated cases against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
