Sharda chit fund case: Rajeev Kumar’s plea seeking protection from CBI arrest rejected, CBI pastes notice at home

Kolkata: As soon as the Calcutta High Court  vacated its order granting him protection from arrest  arrest to former police commissioner Rajiv Kumar in the Saradha chit fund case, the CBI team went into action mode and reached Rajiv Kumar's house. However Rajiv Kumar did not meet at home. The CBI has pasted the notice outside Rajiv Kumar's house and asked him to appear in the CBI office tomorrow. According to sources, Rajiv Kumar is on leave. He has been on leave since last Tuesday.

Earlier, during the hearing on the petition of Rajiv Kumar, Judge Madhumita Mitra has said that the reputation of an officer is not affected by the investigation. A responsible officer should assist in every way. Rajiv Kumar's request for protection was also rejected. The judge said that if the court gives protection to Rajiv Kumar, then the investigation will be affected. The law is the same for everyone.

Rajiv Kumar is accused of tampering with the evidence of the scam. In May 2014, the CBI was responsible for investigating several chit fund scams, including Sudipta Sen-led Sarada Group. Through these scams, investors were hit by Rs 2500 crore. Rajiv Kumar was the Bidhannagar Police Commissioner in 2013 when the scam was exposed.
