CBI registered FIR related to Ex -CEO Chanda Kochhar's husband Deepak Kochhar

New Delhi: On Thursday, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered first information report (FIR)  in the Videocon-NuPower case related to former ICICI Bank managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Chanda Kochhar's husband Deepak Kochhar. Besides, the premier investigative agency also conducted raids at four locations, including Videocon headquarters at Nariman Point in Mumbai and Aurangabad.As per reports mentioned that the CBI also carried out search operations in offices of NuPower. 

While the CBI had registered the preliminary probe against Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot, chairman of Videocon group, to look into alleged wrongdoings in the Rs 40,000 crore loan made by a consortium of lenders.  it is not yet known whether the CBI has named Chanda Kochhar in the FIR or not.

As per reports, Videocon promoter Venugopal Dhoot purportedly invested crores in Nupower, a company controlled by Deepak Kochhar, months after the Videocon group got a loan of Rs 3,250 crore the ICICI Bank in 2012. A committee was set up under Justice BN Srikrishna in September last year to examine alleged property dealings undertaken by Chanda Kochhar and her family ever since she took over as CEO of ICICI Bank.

Previously, market regulator SEBI had also served a notice on Chanda Kochhar over the dealings of the private lender with Videocon group and NuPower. Kochhar has upheld there has been no regulatory violation on her part and that she was not aware of specific business dealings of her husband.

In October last year, Chanda Kochhar leave the post on the chief executive officer and managing director of the ICICI Bank due to the allegations against her. The CBI was already probing the ICICI-Videocon loan case. Last year, the agency had registered a PE, or preliminary enquiry, in the case. That PE has now been turned into an FIR, which means that a full-blown criminal investigation is underway.
