Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14th each year, marks the storming of the Bastille and the beginning of the French Revolution. While this national holiday is deeply rooted in French history, cities around the world also partake in the festivities. Among these, New York City stands out with its grand celebrations.

Central Park French Music Festival

This year, the Consulate General of France in New York has organized a vibrant French musical festival in Central Park. The event will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 5 PM to 10 PM at the Rumsey Playfield, accessible via the entrance at 72nd Street on Fifth Avenue.

The festival, part of the Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage series, promises an evening of lively performances by renowned French and French-speaking artists. Last year, over 6,000 French and American attendees enjoyed the festivities. The event, in collaboration with the Comité des Associations françaises et de langue française de New York (CAFUSA), is free and open to the public with no registration required.

Bastille Day Celebration on Madison Avenue

In addition to the Central Park festival, Bastille Day celebrations will take over Madison Avenue from 59th to 63rd Streets. Sponsored by L’Alliance New York (formerly the French Institute Alliance Française), this day-long event has been a staple for over 20 years, attracting Francophiles and French expatriates alike.

The Madison Avenue celebration features a rich array of activities including performances, parties, games, interactive activities, film screenings, and a French-themed market with over 50 vendors offering delicious food and unique lifestyle products.

Join the Festivities

Whether you're a French expatriate, a Francophile, or simply looking to enjoy a day of cultural celebration, New York City's Bastille Day events offer something for everyone. From the melodic tunes in Central Park to the bustling market on Madison Avenue, the city transforms into a vibrant hub of French culture, providing a perfect opportunity to experience the joy and spirit of Bastille Day.
