New Delhi: On July 10, Sunday, Sunil Gavaskar, a legend in Indian cricket and widely considered as one of the greatest batters ever, turned 73. He was a member of the 1983 Indian team that won the World Cup and served as India's first captain.
The veteran currently works as a broadcaster and analyst, primarily covering India matches.
Gavaskar, often known as the "original Little Master," was renowned for leading India in challenging situations against elite bowling teams and for dominating the batting charts at the time.

He was an excellent opener and the first player in Test cricket to reach 10,000 runs and 30 hundreds. The former cricketer, who was born in Bombay, is notable for making his international debut against the West Indies in 1971 in Port of Spain. He played in 125 Test matches and 108 ODIs until retiring in 1987.
In 214 innings throughout the course of his 16-year international career, Gavaskar scored 10,122 runs at an average of 51.12, including 34 hundreds and a Test cricket record-breaking 236*. His total in ODIs was 3,092 runs at an average of 35.13, with a high score of 103*, his only hundred in the format.
