The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) has undergone an official renaming and is now recognized as the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library (PMML) Society.
In a message shared on Twitter (X), A Surya Prakash, the vice-chairman of PMML, conveyed, "Effective August 14, 2023, the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) has transitioned into the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library (PMML) Society. This change is aligned with the broader aim of democratizing and diversifying the scope of the institution. Wishing you a joyful Independence Day! @narendramodi, @rajnathsingh @MinOfCultureGoI."

Responding to this development, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh voiced his opposition by emphasizing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot diminish the significant contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru to India's struggle for freedom. He further noted that Nehru's legacy will continue to serve as an inspiration for generations to come.

Jairam Ramesh took to his official as Twitter (X) on Wednesday and shared, "Today marks the renaming of an esteemed establishment. The globally renowned Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) is now known as PMML-- Prime Ministers’ Memorial Museum and Library. Mr. Modi carries a substantial baggage of fears, insecurities, and complexes, particularly in relation to our inaugural and longest-serving Prime Minister. His primary focus has been on discrediting, distorting, defaming, and erasing Nehru and his legacy."

In response to Jairam Ramesh's assertions, Ravi Shankar Prasad, a BJP MP, stated, "A fundamental contrast exists between the perspective of the Congress party, Jairam Ramesh, and PM Narendra Modi. The Congress believes that only Nehru ji and his family hold significance. Narendra Modi granted due respect to all the Prime Ministers of the nation at the museum...Why was Lal Bahadur Shastri not acknowledged? The likes of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Chaudhary Charan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, IK Gujral, and HD Deve Gowda were absent...When every Prime Minister is being acknowledged, it is evolving into the Pradhanmantri Smriti Library..."
