The central government has expressed concern in view of the daily increase in corona cases. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba held a meeting on Friday on the situation of the covid epidemic. Meanwhile, expressing concern over the status of Quad infections in 11 states and union territories, it was said that daily cases have been intensified in these states but the implementation of prevention activities has not been expedited so far.
The Cabinet Secretary held a high-level review meeting with chief secretaries, director generals of police, and health workers of all States and union territories to take stringent steps to prevent infection. The 11 states and union territories with an alarming situation are Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana. The ministry said that in 14 days till 31st March, these states contributed 90% in coronavirus cases, 90% in case of death and many states have surpassed or are close to the top cases of the past year.
Consideration of the need to impose fines: As per the information received, the meeting deliberated on the need to impose fines under police law, disaster management law, and other legal and administrative provisions on those who violate the rules for immediate compliance by the States. Taking cognizance of the deteriorating situation due to coronavirus in the last fortnight, the Cabinet Secretary mentioned that the rate of increase in cases in June last year was 5 percent, which increased to 6-8 in March 2021.
