New Delhi: Another vaccine has now been added to the country's ongoing vaccination against the corona epidemic. An expert committee of the Drug Control General of India has allowed the vaccine to be used emergency on Friday. The committee has also sought additional data from the pharma company on the impact of 2 doses of the vaccine.

The generic pharmaceutical company Cadila Healthcare Limited had applied on July 1 last to allow emergency use of ZyCoV-D. The application was made on the basis of a final stage trial conducted on 28,000 volunteers. The vaccine's efficiency rate was 66.6 percent. It has also been reported that the vaccine is also completely safe for the age group of 12 to 18 years. However, its trial data has not been peer-reviewed so far.

The same would be India's second indigenous vaccine if the vaccine is fully approved after emergency use. Earlier, Bharat Biotech and ICMR had jointly made the first indigenous corona vaccine.
