New Delhi: By increasing the tax on petrol and diesel during the nationwide lockdown, the central government will get additional revenue of Rs 2.25 lakh crore. Bloomberg Intelligence has predicted this, that despite the record fall in the prices of crude oil, the central government increased excise duty and other taxes on petrol and diesel.
In May, the central government increased the excise duty of Rs 13 per litre on diesel and Rs 10 per litre on petrol, resulting, the highest tax on fuel in the country. In addition, the government increased road cess on fuel by 8 rupees per litre. State governments, which are facing financial crises amid the Corona epidemic, have recently increased VAT on petrol and diesel because, with the Corona crisis, the revenue of states like Delhi, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal has fallen by 90 percent.
Experts on the constantly increasing prices of fuel said this additional revenue will help the government to deal with the huge economic losses due to the Corona crisis. The central government will also get support in running welfare schemes for the poor and migrants.
