New Delhi: The central government has become cautious about 'mystery seed parcels'. The Modi government at the Center has alerted the state governments as well as the seed industry and research bodies regarding 'suspected or unwanted seed parcels' arriving in India from an unknown source, which may pose a threat to the country's biodiversity.
The Ministry of Agriculture has issued a directive in this regard, in which the bar of 'suspicious seed parcels' to its produce-based research institutes has given the state governments as well as the seed industry and research bodies' suspicious or seeds coming into India from unknown source Parcel 'has been alerted. The Ministry of Agriculture has said, 'A directive has been issued in this regard'. In the last few months, thousands of suspected unwanted seeds consignments have been sent across the world.
The directive states that the threat of 'unwanted seed parcels with suspicious packages from unknown sources' has been found in the US, Canada, Britain, New Zealand, Japan and some European countries. The ministry also mentioned that the 'US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has described it as a scam showing fake figures of seed sales' and 'agricultural smuggling'.
