DELHI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited are among the telecom conglomerates whose non-core assets are being monetised by the central government (MTNL).

As a result, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has started auctioning off the assets of BSNL and MTNL. The auction of the first batch of six telecos properties kicked off the monetisation process.

On Saturday, DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey tweeted, "Non-core asset monetisation started with the first batch of six assets of BSNL/MTNL bid out on the MSTC platform."

Asset monetisation, according to the DIPAM website, entails generating new revenue streams by releasing the value of previously unused or underutilised public assets.
