Modi government to amend motor vehicle act, Indians living abroad will benefit

New Delhi: The Centre's Modi government is preparing to change the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1989, inviting suggestions from the public. The Transport Ministry has also issued draft notifications to change the rules. Indians living abroad will benefit after the rule changes.

According to the existing rule, it is difficult for Indians living abroad to renew international driving licences. They have to come to India. After this amendment, Indians living abroad will be able to renew their driving licences from there. The Centre is constantly receiving complaints that they have difficulty in having an international driving licence expiry while travelling abroad, and there is no mechanism to renew your international driving licence while abroad.

That is why the government is now preparing to amend the rules. After the change in motor Vehicle Act 1989, Indians living abroad will be able to renew their licences by applying through the Indian embassy and mission's web portal.
