New Delhi: Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has given a statement about the increasing air pollution in North India including Delhi. He said that the Central government is doing everything possible to tackle air pollution in Delhi and North India. Javadekar said during a program that PM Modi has determined to improve the air quality of 100 cities in the next five years.
Javadekar said that the population of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai is the same and industrial and vehicular pollution is also similar. Prakash Javadekar also reacted to the ever-increasing air pollution in Delhi. He said, "Delhi's air quality index has been more than 300 during the last few days, whereas in Chennai it was just 29, in Mumbai it was 140 and in Bengaluru it was 45". Pollution in Delhi has reached the 'severe' category. People are having a lot of trouble in breathing.
Starchy smoke has emerged as the biggest problem in Delhi for the last decade. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal says that the major reason of pollution in Delhi is smoke coming from Punjab and Haryana. The smoke of the stubble which the farmers there burn to clean their fields dissolves the poison in the air of Delhi and NCR. According to the current data, stubble burning may contribute up to 30% in increasing pollution. The Delhi government is taking necessary steps to reduce pollution.
